Our Mission

To support the setup of one educational institution in each of the 600+ districts of India imparting values based holistic education thus serving as a model for other institutions in that region.

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Our program draws its inspiration from the life and legacy of Sri Sathya Sai Baba whose championing of the ideal of Education as a Service to society has transformed many lives, families and communities.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba, was born in the year 1926 at Puttaparthi, a small, pastoral village in India’s Andhra Pradesh State. He grew up to be loved and revered as a humanitarian and a spiritual leader the world over. His message of ‘Love All- Serve All’ and ‘Help Ever-Hurt Never’ formed the basis for all the philanthropic work in the fields of Healthcare, Education and Nutrition. Baba’s simple yet effective teachings on life and spirituality continue to guide us even today. His mission of touching and transforming individuals and societies through acts of selfless love and service lives on.

History of PBMT

Prashanthi Balamandira Trust was established on the 2 April, 1981 in the holy premises of Sri Yogeshwara Mutt located at the north of the serene and calm town of Chikkaballapur in the state of Karnataka. A seed sown by virtuous people with fewer resources but a greater vision has today grown into a huge tree assured to perennially spread the good work to all corners of the world. The foliage of this tree has already unfurled its virescence to many districts in Karnataka. “Goodness is the only investment that never fails”.
Mr B N Narasimha Murthy, the Chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence and the Chief Mentor of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam was the District Co-ordinator for Sevadal wing for the Chikkaballapur district during 1971, which is also his birth place. He came to Muddennahalli in the year 1971 as per the directions from his Mentor Sri Madiyal Narayan Bhat to start a School, due to the growing demand of Sathya Sai Schools, in the mirror image of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva School that was already functioning successfully at Alike. The inspiration that aroused in the hearts of people after witnessing the speciality and uniqueness of Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva School at Alike was so much so, that some of the local Schools’ management at Davanagare, Mandya and Shimoga came forward to entrust their Schools to the care of Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Group. The power of rectitude naturally attracts its innate likeness from around the world!

Sri Madiyala Narayan Bhat

Late Sri Madiyala Narayan Bhat, fondly called as Anna, was the founding father and patron of the Alike and Muddenahalli Institutions. He was a visionary, a patriot, social worker, and a spiritual seeker, and nurtured an aspiration to set up free schools all over Karnataka that would impart values-based education. Sri Narayan Bhat established the Loka Seva Vrinda in 1960. He established Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva High School at Alike, his birthplace, a remote village in Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka State way back in 1961. Later, he also established another Institution at Muddenahalli (in Chikkaballapur District), the birthplace of Bharatratna Dr M Vishveshwaraya, the famous engineer-statesman.
American author, Edith Wharton said, “There are two ways of spreading light. To be the candle or be the mirror that reflects it.” Sri Narayan Bhat was that mirror, and his prayers seeking Baba’s guidance on the running of these schools for social welfare were answered with love and grace. In April 1973, when Baba visited Manipal in Karnataka, Sri Narayan Bhat requested Him to name the campus at Muddenahalli. The name ‘Sathya Sai Grama’ was given.
