Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam - Need of the Hour

It is a proven fact that the important formative years of a child are between grades 6 and 12. These are the years when the child develops academically, but more importantly emotionally! As the child moves from teenage into adolescence, careful attention to every child’s emotional and behavioural aspects becomes extremely important, so as to help the child pick up the right value system, that could help the child all through his or her life. Considerable time and efforts are needed to groom the child as a complete personality, failing which it can lead to lopsided development that can have adverse effects, especially in today’s highly competitive world.
We firmly believe that in the coming decades stress in the life of a human being is only going to increase. So, there is a need to teach in the present-day schools how to cope with that. Research has shown that by and by, the Spiritual Quotient and the Emotional Quotient are becoming equally important, if not more important, than Intelligence Quotient. We take this responsibility very seriously to help child develop the right behaviour which would create joy and happiness it’s own life and in the life of those around it. Education experts define the most important skills for the twenty first century students of a global society, as the 4 C’s – critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. But, we consider the 5th C – character over and above the 4 C’s, as the most important. Simply put, Character is the ability to do right always. Understandably, all of this requires considerable time and focussed effort. Therefore, reducing the unwanted academic burden by enabling the child and the parents to choose the right subjects, based on child’s aptitude and interest, can help the child immensely, and allow enough time to learn other important skills, for not just surviving but thriving in the 21st century. NIOS is therefore the perfect choice to implement this idea of a holistic development of child and better prepared for a global future.

Thus, the transformation of Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Group of Educational Institutions into Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam, with a focused approach to learning in line with the twenty first century world, is the way forward.

Spirit of Self-Reliance, Brotherhood and Sacrifice

The Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence is a modern day Gurukula which imparts worldly knowledge with greater emphasis on spiritual education. It fosters and cultivates a spirit of self-inquiry, self-reliance and self-sacrifice in an environment of self-discipline.
The University trains teachers, dedicated workers and students who will be committed to serving their fellow beings through furthering the cause of values-based education, without the barriers of caste, creed, race, religion, gender or geography, to those in need.

The Joy of Learning !

Our education system is based on the philosophy of our Founder Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba who firmly believed that the integrated development of the child, with the right balance of academic, moral and spiritual education is to achieved. After 50 years of our institutions, the last three months gave us the much needed time to introspect and rededicate ourselves to the founder’s vision, of imparting high quality academic education, rightly balanced with moral and spiritual values like, service to mankind, compassion for fellow beings, understanding of the spiritual culture of India and its practice in daily life. For the child to have a well-rounded personality and be able to withstand the pressures of life, in any progressive education system, there needs to be equal emphasis on Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Spiritual aspects. Unfortunately, some or the other aspect of this holistic education philosophy is found lacking in most of the present-day educational pedagogy that largely focuses on the academic aspect alone, and needs immediate rectification.

After much deliberation, Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Group of Educational Institutions have finally decided to make a transition from the traditional system of education under the Karnataka/CBSE board curriculum to National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), which augurs well for our vision of balanced and holistic education, by helping reduce the stress of frequent testing and examinations on our students, and allowing more flexibility in choosing subjects of one’s interest and inclination, leading to better performance. This has been done after several discussions with educational authorities and many parents in the society whose children were educated under this system and are now studying in various reputed universities.

Under this noble effort to redefine the educational approach in our institutions, Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva group of educational institutions, is being renamed as Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam, with the sole intention to bring back the Indian Gurukula system of education, with a child-centric, balanced and insightful approach, where learning is truly a joy!
